A Little Quiz

I know that many of you are on Easter Break right now, but to keep your brains sharp, I would like to present you with a little quiz.

This past Saturday, we looked out our kitchen window and saw a perplexing sight. Here is the evidence:

2 bird feet
Some of the feathers - mostly white with some that had gray on the ends, as seen below

A tag that was found by one of the feet

Here are four of the five prime suspects:
What we can't figure out is what kind of bird it was. At first we thought it was a chicken, but to the best of our knowledge, the few neighbors we have don't have chickens. But, what kind of bird would have that many white feathers and be tagged?

Any guesses?????

  2. A dead bird. :)

I think that the tag can be linked back with the number on the tag - but you probably knew that already.

My real guess... Probably a juvenile hawk, caught sleeping. Mama's gonna be angry.

  3. A Balrog! No wait, they don't exactly have feathers.... ummm, no idea. One of my multiple personalities? Only I didn't know I had multiple forms... :P

  4. I sent this on to my uncle who is an avid bird watcher. Here is his response:

    Hi Jenni,

I will tell you that if you want to "ruffle the feathers" of serious birders, just show them those photos! Some birders don't like cats period while others would hope owners would keep their cats indoors. Outdoor cats can cause serious harm to local bird populations.

I have no idea what the bird was, but they should turn in the band to a local ornithologist. The damage is already done, but I'm sure ornithologists will want to know that the bird has met its demise.

    A mystery for sure!!!
